2005 Annual
"A Voice" Run/Walk for the Children
A group of dedicated, intrepid staff and supporters of CCF's A Voice Program braved the nasty weather on Saturday, May 14, to participate in the 3rd Annual "A Voice Run/Walk for the Children." The event is sponsored and paid for by Dr. Robert Kroger, DDS (www.cincinnatismiles.com), so all the proceeds go to the A Voice Program, which provides treatment services to children who have been sexually abused and their non-offending family members. Thanks to "Dr. Bob," his staff and family, and everyone who participated or made donations to this crucial program.

Brown Mackie College Produces CCF Video

Brown Mackie College donated its talent and equipment to produce a 7-minute informational video explaining who Center for Children and Families is and what it is we do. This video was designed to be shown at our fundraiser event, but also to be used in the community at large. If your group would like to view the video, contact sharon.sittner@ccfohio.org.

Our thanks to Brown Mackie instructer Doug Yeager, and to students Jason Caudill, Bryan Dellefield, and David Scheibenzuber for donating their time, talent, and equipment.

CARF Audit Completed
.
Two auditors from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) spent January 19th-21st visiting/surveying all CCF sites. CARF is an international non-profit accreditation organization that sets rigorous standards in the healthcare industry to ensure consumers the highest quality care.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of this audit and to the everyday operations of CCF. It was truly an all-team effort and is a reflection of our dedicated, talent staff

Although it will take 4-6 weeks before we get the formal results from CARF, the surveyors’ summary on Friday, 1/21, was extremely positive and we fully expect to receive a full three-year accreditation.

Thanks to everyone who helped contribute to the success of this audit and to the everyday operations of CCF. It was truly an all-team effort and is a reflection of our dedicated, talent staff.

CCF/Talbert House Integration

The Center for Children and Families (CCF) is beginning integration of its fiscal department with that of TalbertHouse/Core Behavioral Health Centers. In the next two weeks, CCF will co-locate its 5 fiscal staff, along with Alison Schomaeker who will remain CCF's Controller. By the end of June, CCF expects to be a part of a fully integrated fiscal department serving all three affiliate agencies (CCF, Talbert House, and Core) under Director of Finance, Tom Gathof.

This move starts a chain of events, with Talbert's Pass Plus's staff moving to CCF's Walnut Hills office at 1501 Madison Rd. CCF's Mental Health Board-funded school-based services will then move from 1501 Madison (Walnut Hills) to 4760 Madison (Madisonville) to join Program Director, Kelly Grubbs, and the rest of her school-based services staff..

The fiscal integration is in keeping with the Talbert/CCF Management Agreement first approved some six years ago and later reaffirmed last year by each Board of Directors. The Agreement's objectives are to create efficiencies, cost savings and cross utilization of services. Already completed integrations include: Information Services,Human Resources, Clinical Quality Services, and Development.

The timing for the move is a result of:
1. The advent of the new CATT fiscal operations
2. Recent completion of FY financial audits and reconciliations
3. The FY06 development of MHB budgets to begin next month.

While in the short term these moves will create some confusion and personal changes, the moves are made with the idea that we - Talbert and CCF - will be benefit long term with the efficiencies created.

Joann Payne Receives Award from Norword Middle School

CCF school-based therapist, Joann Payne, received the Team Player Award from Norwood Middle School. As Norwood Middle School’s principal, Sharon Freyhof, said, “Every day you work for our students. You fight for their rights and have the courage to tell them when they are wrong. Thank you for going the ‘extra mile.’” JoAnn’s receiving the award is especially significant because this is the first time an outside provider has ever earned it.
Congratulations, Joann!

Humana Grant To Benefit School-Based Program

Thanks to Board Member Mike Brooks, CCF has received a $2,500 grant from
Humana of Ohio. The grant will be combined with a $7,000 Ohio Department
of Mental Health grant to provide prevention/education programs at Winton
Academy and another school, yet to be determined.

Tom Palmer, long time CEO, says goodbye
Tom Palmer has served as CEO of Center for Children for Families for over 30 years. Effective September 1, 2005 (or thereabouts), Tom will be leaving CCF. Although this will be a great loss for CCF, a search for a replacement is underway; and we expect to have a new CEO named by that time. Tom Palmer has served the community well and will be missed, but he will remain actively involved in the mental health community - he has accepted a part-time position at the Affiliation (Talbert House, CCF, and Core Behavioral Health) as Special Projects Manager of School-Based Services. This will give Tom a chance to spend more time with his family (and, of course, to play a few more rounds of golf!).
